postdoctoral associate (organic synthesis)

Company/Institution: Department of Chemistry, Korea University
Location: Seoul, Korea
Date Posted: 5 July 2010

I have an immediate opening for a postdoctoral associate (organic synthesis) in my research group. The stipend ranges from 2.2 to 2.5 million Korean won per month depending on the experience. The position is for a duration of one year with an opportunity to extend for the second year.

The project is aimed towards the synthesis of two-photon probes for biological imaging. There is much interest in the application of two-photon microscopy in biological and medical research. However, the progress in this field is limited by the lack of efficient two-photon probes for specific applications. We have recently initiated a project by developing two-photon probes and utilization of such probes in various applications (see for example, Acc. Chem. Res. 2009, 42, 863; JACS, 2010, 132, 1216; ACIE, 2010, 49, 364). We have excellent facilities including tunable femtosecond laser and two-photon microscopy. Once the probes are synthesized, the spectroscopic and bio-imaging studies can be performed in collaboration with our graduate students. It will be rewarding because this is a new and challenging area with possibilities of many important applications.
