We are currently looking for a research scientist to work in an on-going NIH-funded project focused on the exciting area of Interaction of Proteins with Nanomaterials. Preference will be given to individuals with a degree in chemistry (or a closely related discipline, PhD preferred but not required) and a strong publication record. Due to the objectives of the project it is essential to demonstrate knowledge/experience in ellipsometry or adsorption of macromolecules to surfaces, preferably proteins. Additionally, applicants must be able to:
- plan and carry out experimental work efficiently and independently
- interpret both practical and theoretical results
- work flexible hours occasionally to satisfy the goals of the research project
- bring enthusiasm for top-quality research, self-motivation and ability to work and communicate in a multidisciplinary team
- participate in regular team meetings
- generate publications from his/her work, present the results in scientific meetings, and help enhance the research reputation of the University
The selected candidate will be based in the UTSA Department of Chemistry and will have the posibility to interact with other members of the Department. The candidate will also have the opportunity to participate in other related projects (design of biosensors, drug delivery devices, and biocompatible materials), travel, and receive training in various techniques such as microscopy, chromatography, mass spectrometry, microfabrication, electrochemistry, and capillary electrophoresis.
Salary will be adjusted according to experience and productivity and is complemented by an additional comprehensive benefits package.The selected candidate will be initially appointed for 6 months, with the possibility of subsequent extentions, depending on performance and funding availability.
