Company/Institution: Department of Earth Sciences, University of Hong Kong
Location: Hong Kong
Date Posted: 26 July 2009

Our group at the University of Hong Kong would like to advertise for multiple fully funded MPhil/PhD positions in the field of Computational Geochemistry. Projects will involve modeling energetic and spectroscopic properties of molecular clusters such as neutral and ionic water clusters, as well as select metal/water cluster systems, at ambient and extreme geological conditions. Several different ab initio methodologies will be applied and there will be a possibility to combine this theoretical work with experimental ion cluster studies using our new ESI FT- ICR/MS IRMPD facility.

Successful applicants will join a dynamic, research-oriented department with strong collaborative links to the Physics, Chemistry and other natural science departments as well as to high-performance supercomputing facilities on campus. Applicants should hold a first class or upper- second class B.Sc. degree (or equivalent) in Geochemistry, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline and should be highly motivated to perform fundamental simulation and modeling studies.
