Our client has an opening for a chemist or biochemist research technician position. This position is located in Wilmington Delaware.

Primary Function: synthesis and binding characterization of labeled peptides.

Brief job description: We are seeking an individual for assignment to the Peptides Engineering Program.

The candidate will synthesize radiolabeled peptides. The labeled peptides will be used by the chemist to measure binding affinities of the peptide to specific surface targets.

The successful candidate will explore three synthetic options to incorporate label into the peptide: in vitro translation; in vivo cell labeling; and post-syntheses modification. The candidate will be responsible for full analyses of the sample; the ability to interpret data is desirable. The diversity of synthetic options requires that the candidate is comfortable with manipulating microorganisms as well as chemical reagents. The measurement of binding affinities may require that the individual develop creative solutions.

Minimum Skills Required: Bachelors or bachelors/masters degree in chemistry or biochemistry is preferred; however, on-the job experience may be acceptable. The successful candidate must: have a can-do attitude and comfortable exploring versatile technical tools and working under tight deadlines; have demonstrated skills in chemical syntheses; have demonstrated proficiency in performing mathematical calculations; be capable of working independently and efficiently; be well organized and diligent in documenting lab experiments in electronic lab notebook; have good communication skills and comfortable providing written and oral presentations to the research team; have experience with MS Word and Excel, ChemDraw. Due to work with radioisotopes and organic chemicals, an excellent safety record with a proactive, positive safety attitude is a must.
