Research Chemist II (Mass Spectroscopist)

Intermediate Level. Full time 12 month. College of Agriculture & Home Economics, Center for Animal Health, Food Safety and Bio-Security, New Mexico State University. Bachelors degree (in hand by hire date) in chemistry and five years related experience. Masters degree preferred. Serves as research chemist in the area of mass spectrometry/analytical chemistry conducting analysis for: poisons in complex matrices such as food; the stability and the bio availability of poisons in these matrices; establish chemical profiles of poisons and other deleterious substances placed in foods. Will be part of a small team responsible for experimental studies designed to improve and enhance analytical methods currently in use or develop totally new methodology in the area of mass spectrometry/analytical chemistry. Will have knowledge of principles and ability to operate and maintain GC and/or LC mass spectrometry equipment including accessories sufficient to evaluate analyses of food and agricultural samples. Is capable and willing to work with a variety of irritant chemicals and biological samples including poisons and other deleterious agents. Salary commensurate with experience and education. Position is contingent upon funding. May be subject to drug and alcohol testing depending on the contract requirement.
