SAIC-Frederick, Inc., a subsidiary of SAIC, is the Operations and
Technical Support Contractor for the National Cancer Institute at Frederick
(NCI-Frederick) a federally funded research and development center.
SAIC-Frederick, Inc. is one of four related NCI contracts on-site and serves as
the infrastructure support for the entire center. The contract is the largest
single research contract awarded by the Department of Health and Human Services
(DHHS) and it is the department's only Government-owned, contractor-operated
facility contract.
SAIC-Frederick, Inc. is currently searching for a Scientist II for our
Synthetic Chemistry Lab in Frederick, MD. Responsibilities will be to initiate
and conduct the design, synthesis, purification, and characterization of
bioactive molecules directed toward treatment of cancer; carry out cutting-edge
medicinal chemistry research leading to new approaches to the design of
clinical candidates. Play a significant role in the generation of lead
compounds for various chemical biology programs, by utilizing multiple
strategies such as HTS hit validation, lead optimization and structure-based
design.
REQUIRED SKILLS: Possession of a Doctoral degree from an accredited college or
university appropriate to biomedical research, or eight (8) years related
experience in lieu of degree. Foreign educated candidates who have completed
part or all of their education outside of the United States must have their
foreign education evaluated by an SAIC-approved accrediting organization to
assure that it has met the equivalency of the qualifications of degree work in
the United States. In addition to education requirements, should have had two
or more years of competent, innovative research experience beyond doctoral
training with experience with natural product and/or multi-step synthesis of
biologically complex active organic compounds in the pharmaceutical or academic
environment, and at least one year of experience in project management of
multiple drug development projects. Will possess a strong record of published
accomplishments. Proficiency in identifying structure activity relationships
(SAR), selectivity profiles, pharmacokinetics and in vitro efficacy. Extensive
experience with modern analytical and purification methods, including NMR, IR,
LCMS, HPLC and various forms of chromatography is required. In addition,
experience in high throughput parallel synthesis and analytical chemistry is
required. This position is subject to obtaining a Public Trust Clearance.
Experience in applied research will be beneficial.
