The Organic Chemistry Institute (OCI) and the Biochemistry
Institute (BIOC) at the University of Zurich are seeking one Ph.D. student by
October 2007.
The project will focus on the total synthesis of biologically active
molecules.
Supported on high level theoretical calculations to study the ligand-receptor
interactions, we want to get a deeper insight into the structure-activity
relationships (SAR) of these molecules. At the same time, we aim to provide
flexible chemical methods that allow structural modifications in order to
improve their therapeutic profiles.
Education The succesful candidates should have a solid background in
EXPERIMENTAL ORGANIC CHEMISTRY, and be highly motivated to learn computational
chemistry (previous theoretical background is also a plus). The Ph.D. work will
be developed between the two groups (Prof. Nevado at the OCI and Prof. Caflisch
at the BIOC) with an exciting interactive research team in a multidisciplinary
fashion. Salary will be determined on the basis of SNF funds.
Ideal candidates will already possess excellent communication skills including
proficiency in English
